The Potential: Greatness Starts with You

The potential for everything great and the potential for everything terrible rests inside all human beings: what we do with that potential is up to us. So often, we focus on the outside world, and we think about what others can do differently – but what might happen if we took that same energy and focused it on working on ourselves instead?

Think about how much we would grow if our energy was directed at what we do and how we impact others. Think about how different, in turn, our society would be.

As we frantically look for answers as to why tragedies take place and what practical solutions can solve or fix society’s ills, it might be wise if we take a step back and look within. Whom have we snapped at recently? Whom have we taken our anger out on? Whom have we ignored? Whom have we objectified by calling them names? Whom have we hurt?

The answer that most give to those questions is “Yes… but” because we seem to have “logical reasons” for why we hurt others; yet when other people do similar things as we do, we view it as “unacceptable,” and for some reason, we say that we “cannot understand it.”

We cannot start by fixing others, because the reality is we cannot fix anyone else other than ourselves.

The truthful and simultaneously exciting thing is this: We do not have to wait to work on our potential to go great things; we can start today.
